Legal Tech Glögit network

Legal Tech Glögit network was set up in January 2019. From the beginning, the mission of the network has been to accelerate the development of the legal industry through the sharing of knowledge and the creation of a common language on digital transformation.

Why “Glögit”?

The name of Legal Tech Glögit originates from the network’s first meeting at Restaurant Teatteri in Helsinki, Finland. In January 2019, A small group of seasoned legal innovators from Finland gathered after work for glögg to discuss the potential interest in legal tech conversations and collaborative learning. Together, we decided to find out whether there would be a demand for such sessions.

Since then, a total of 26 networking and knowledge-sharing sessions have been held at the premises of hosting firms and sometimes online. Most of the events have been held in Finnish, but occasionally the sessions have been in English, to engage experts from abroad.

As the network has grown, there has been a growing pressure to give the network a more convincing name. On the other hand, many people like the current name, as it reflects the relaxed nature of the network.

Given that the name has become well-known, it feels wrong to abandon it entirely. Therefore, moving forward, we will continue to refer to the networking sessions as “Glögit” in Finland, but the network itself will be called Legal Transformation Network.

For whom?

The network has grown organically, without a specific goal to expand it. Rather, the aim has been to find people genuinely interested in the development of the legal industry.

The network already includes representatives from the majority of Finnish legal service providers, lawyers from over 30 in-house teams, technology vendors, and designers. There is an active effort to increase representation from in-house lawyers and universities. Students are also warmly welcome to join the network.

Additionally, a couple of key people from Sweden, Norway, and Estonia have also been invited to join the network. It seems that the network may be expanding beyond national borders.

Currently, the invitation list includes over 260 people. If you are not yet a member, click on the link below and become a member by subscribing to the newsletter.

Building a common language on digital transformation

From the beginning, the mission of the network has been to accelerate the change in the legal industry. A key element to success is to have a common language and a holistic view of the transformation.

In 2019, we couldn’t define what “legal tech” actually means. As a result of all dialogues, we have finally created a shared understanding of legal tech. It has been fascinating to see how broadly legal tech is understood in Finland among the most seasoned experts of the field.

The Legal Tech House framework, developed from the themes and insights of the network’s dialogues, serves as a starting point for the digital transformation talks. The design of the framework emphasizes the importance of a client-centric thinking and value creation. The framework acts as a checklist and a common language for any discussion about digital transformation – any topic from strategy to execution.

The framework is developed and maintained by the CEO of Ilves, Heikki Ilvessalo. Feel free to contact him for more information.
